As I write this on Friday, the Dow is around 9750. That is down 300 from the Monday morning high around 10,050.

But the market went up 200 on Thursday. So in the other four days, the market dropped 500 overall.

So, in a week when the market rose 200 one day in 500 in all the other days, why does the one day 200 point advance get the headline news, while the news headlines totally ignore the fact that

THE STOCK MARKET DROPPED 500 in the rest of the week.

If you were on an airplane that dropped 5,000 feet, but at one point it zoomed up 2,000 feet before resuming its 5,000 foot plunge, would you find it comforting if the pilot came on the intercom and said “Folks! I’m pleased to inform you that we just gained two thousand feet!” but the rest of the time he pilot was silent while you could feel the plane dropping like a rock?

Would you feel like you were being kept fully informed, or would you say somebody is being highly selective in what they choose to report?
